The Domino Effect

Last night when D woke up for his 4am feed, I really REALLY had to pee. So I went... thinking I'd just pee BEFORE he fed. No. Big. Deal...

But that pee turned into THE longest pee in the HISTORY of pees.

Which lead to D escalating from just KINDA stirring, to wide awake and CRYING.

Which lead to the husband waking up.

Which lead to HIM getting up to pee, realizing HE was now wide awake too, and on the way back from peeing, turning into a total dumbass who checked his work calendar to see how his lack of sleep would impact his day ahead.

Which lead to the husband being a TOTAL ball of stress, who tossed and turned, and tossed and turned, and TOSSED AND TURNED. And was probably going to KEEP tossing and turning until 7am.

Which lead to me getting annoyed that he'd BE such a dumbass, not KNOWING it'd turn him into a ball of stress, and thus impacting me and D too, cuz when the husband tosses and turns he does it with such INSANE FLINGABILITY it could wake the entire neighbourhood.

Which lead to me probably being too tense to feed, cuz instead of feeding for his usual 15 minutes that he does in the night now, D fed for FORTY-FIVE F*G minutes.

Which lead to me getting even MORE intense, cuz now not only was I going to have to deal with a husband who was flinging himself around like a monkey, but I was going to have to deal with it on even LESS sleep cuz D would NOT STOP FEEDING.

Which lead to me poking D incessantly as he half-slept-half-fed, in hopes that I could keep him awake enough to FINISH eating, and let me move onto my NEW battle [against the monkey] to fall back asleep [despite his flinging].

Which lead to D FINALLY pulling off, me assuming that was him DONE feeding (not done with mama poking him), and me rushing to put him back down to sleep.

Which lead to D crying again the SECOND I put him back down - something he hasn't done in the night in weeks. Something he only does in the day now.

Which lead to me cursing, swearing, flinging pillows to get ready to soothe the boy AGAIN, and having a little breakdown at 4:55am.

Which lead to the husband giving up on his sleep, and taking D to the living room to bounce him back to sleep.

Which lead to the husband going to work around 6am-ish, cuz all the drama starting from the 4am crying to the 5:30am bouncing had him up - may as well STAY up.

All because I decided to take one MEASLY minute for me.

All because I decided to put my bladder first.

Oh man. I often nearly pee my pants while nursing Bird to try to avoid this, but sometimes I just can't wait and I go first. I always regret it.

You are way nicer than me. I always got BigP up to hold the baby while I went to pee. If I had to be up and needed him - so be it. He can get up for a few minutes so I can pee and then go back to bed while I nursed.

Oh yea.. I know the holding your pee until your bladder just abt explodes or you have those marathon pees. And "insanely flinging" tossing and turning.. i thougth you were talking of my HunHun for a second.. ;)

Ah your DH will survive. What else were you going to do...pee your pants during the marathon feed? I remember many days where I'd be up feeding Jillian at 4am and then getting ready for work at my usual wake-up time of 5am.

If only you had a night time catheter you could have avoided this all!

It is a miserable night when everyone's awake at 4 am. And it doesn't stop when you stop night feedings (you might get a break) - just last night, right around 4 am, my daughter crawled into our bed because she was cold, and it didn't occur to her to put her blankets back on. Maybe it was just the night for everyone to be up at 4 am!

Nights like that seriously suck! {{{Hugs}}}

that's hilarious. and so true. and so funny to read about everyone who was up before the butt-crack of dawn this AM.

we got up at 5 am last night, after l'il monkey wouldn't go back to sleep after awakening for no reason at 4:45.
(this happens most nights, but we usually mange to ignore his fussing and eke out another hour or so of sleep)

I remember nights like that and everything seems worse when the sun isn't up yet!!!

Maybe they should make a nursing contraption/pillow that fits over your shoulders to hold the baby while you pee???

I totally remember those nights. All the wistfulness that I felt this morning about having no more babies in this house is gone now. Thank you.

Fun, huh?!?!?! But, really, what choice do you have? I've had to make the same decision before countless times. Peeing always wins. I figure that it won't take me nearly as much time to pee as it will to clean up whatever I pee all over if I don't get to pee when and where I want. TMI?

Isn't it wonderful lol

maybe 2 of you in your house should be wearing diapers...could be a whole new market for Depends!

Yeah, the flinging - my husband does it as a way of letting me know that he can't go back to sleep. He also kind of breathes overly loudly, which drives me bonkers...

Ah, the great pee debate. Closely related to the "can I grab 15 minutes more sleep since the baby's just starting to stir but isn't REALLY hungry yet?" debate. It never seems to work out very well, does it?

BEEN THERE DONE THAT! Now my bladder is trained to get up at 3am, whether the baby is up or not. LOVELY! I always went and just sucked up the consequences. :O)

Ahhhhhhh..... those days. They're a blur to me now. G and I had a couple 4 am arguments, due to lack of sleep back then.

You're a great mama! Keep it up!

and so it goes.
the bouncing we still do at 9 months, so get used to it.

and I swear my hub is the loudest pee-er ever. he's woken her up a couple times already just because he forgot to close the door.

This is totally off topic but I wanted to let you know that you inspired me. I have been back to weight lifting for two weeks now and can I say how TOTALLY AWESOME it is to do it? I had to give up the 6:30-8:30AM sleep period twice a week to get it but it is totally worth it. Thank you!!!

I am tired just reading that. Even though I woke up to a screaming child at 5:30. No rhyme or reason for the tantrum. BTW chicklet. Limerick chick time again. Check out my entry. Voting is March 2.

So, I sorta DID pee my pants last night! I thought I could get Little Girl's bottle warmed up before dashing into the bathroom -- big mistake. So I fed commando, got Little Girl back to bed, then felt around in the dark for clean pants. Oh the glamour!!!
